Bobby Fischer is dead now: he is the most famous personality in Chess -isn't it quite shocking ?
He was the one who gave a new meaning to this age-old game...perhaps the first REAL Grandmaster in Chess. His website still serves as a resource area for expert tips/strategies on the game http://bobbyfischer.net/
Also he's known for his Peace stance and was opposed to the US invasion on Vietnam and other military initiatives by American war-mongers. He actually gave up US citizenship as a mark of protest -some people denounce him as a Communist but reality is, he was a non-political person and only concentrated on improving present standards of Chess. He pioneered a few innovative designs which are still used in the game...e.g. the ELO systems ranking and Rapid Fire chess
He is to chess what Pele is to football, Bradman to cricket, Dhyan Chand to hockey, Jack Nicklaus to golf....truly I can't believe it the media hasn't covered this news today...I just learnt it from a website -he's been dead for hours as I write this
Yea very shocking. 64 years old, one year for every square on the board. He will definitely go down with the greatest ever; Kasparov, Capablanca, Alekhine etc. He did grow paranoid and had some bizarre political views and 9/11 comments to make in his last years, but i'll always remember him as one of the best players of all time.
